Key England players Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer will miss England’s ODI tri-series in Pakistan later this month. Buttler misses out with a hamstring injury sustained during the second ODI against Sri Lanka, while Archer has been rested after a hectic workload during the just-concluded England summer.
Legspinner Adil Rashid returns to the 16-member squad after missing England’s recent 2-1 ODI series win over Sri Lanka with a hand injury. All-rounder Sam Curran is also back after recovering from a groin injury.
Glamorgan leg-spinner Mason Crane has been recalled to the England squad, eight years after his last international appearance. Crane, who has two T20I caps, was picked for the Sydney Ashes Test against Australia in January 2018. He remains uncapped in ODIs. Meanwhile, the uncapped Sussex duo James Coles and Henry Crocombe, who have been part of England’s white-ball squads this summer, have been picked again.
England Men National Selector Marcus North said the tri-series would provide the squad with an opportunity to test themselves in different conditions. “Adil Rashid and Sam Curran return to the squad following their respective injuries while Jofra Archer has been rested to manage his workload following a busy summer.
“Mason Crane has been performing consistently for Glamorgan across both formats during the summer. He’s an experienced, high-class leg-spinner who thoroughly deserves another opportunity at international level.”
The tri-series, also featuring Sri Lanka, will be played in Rawalpindi and Lahore. The two teams will play a double round-robin before the top two teams square off in the final scheduled at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on October 31.
