GEORGIA – Georgia homeowners who qualify for the state’s 2026 Homeowner Tax Relief Grant will receive an $18,000 reduction in the assessed value of their homesteads, lowering their property tax bills.
The Georgia Department of Revenue will begin distributing funds to local governments this week. The one-time program was approved by Gov. Brian Kemp and the Georgia General Assembly in the amended fiscal 2026 budget.
“Along with our partners in the General Assembly, we are delivering on our promise to make life more affordable for hardworking Georgians by providing needed relief for homeowners from property taxes,” Kemp said.
The savings will appear as a reduction on property tax bills, not as a separate check or direct deposit. Some homeowners may already see the relief on bills that have been issued; others will see it as local governments continue sending bills.
Homeowners with a qualifying homestead exemption do not need to submit a separate application. The Department of Revenue is processing applications and distributing funds as local governments submit required documentation for verification.
Homeowners with questions about eligibility or the relief on their bill should contact their local tax commissioner’s office.
