Indonesia’s Abhiram Singh Yadav has been elected to the International Cricket Council’s Chief Executives Committee (CEC), as an Associate member representative.
Cricbuzz had reported on September 13 that Yadav was among the contenders for the position. He will occupy one of the three CEC positions reserved for Associate members of the world governing body.
Yadav replaces Gurumurthy Palani, who was earlier elected to the ICC Board. He will hold the position until June 2027, when fresh elections will be held for a two-year term.
Yadav was one of four candidates in the fray in the online election, which was held over the last three days. He beat a field that included Sarah Gomersall, Chief Executive Officer of Jersey Cricket, and Vignesh Sankaran, vice-president of Germany’s Deutscher Cricket Bund.
Yadav, who is spearheading the development of an ambitious cricket facility in Bali, polled 30 of the 43 total votes. Gomersall received nine, while Sankaran secured three.
Meanwhile, the newly elected representative has pledged to work in close collaboration with ICC Chairman Jay Shah. “I have tremendous respect for the leadership, energy and ambition Mr. Jay Shah has brought to world cricket. He has consistently encouraged the game to think beyond its traditional boundaries – about new markets, new generations, women’s cricket, innovation and the enormous possibilities that lie ahead for our sport.
“For Associates, that matters enormously. Mr. Shah has recognised the vital role Associate Members can play in cricket’s global expansion. We should respond to that confidence with ambition and action.
“As a CEC member, I am ready to work constructively with Mr. Shah, the ICC Board, CEC, ICC management and Members to help advance those ambitions. Associate Members should not simply be beneficiaries of cricket’s global growth. We should be active partners in helping deliver it,” he said, reacting to his election.
With his win, Yadav became the third Associate representative on the ICC board. Gurdeep Klair of Canada and Anuraag Bhatnagar of Hong Kong China are the other two members on the board, which also includes the 12 Full Members. The CEC is chaired by ICC CEO Sanjog Gupta. Shah is its ex officio member.
