Marjorie Taylor Greene calls MAGA ‘grotesque cult’ led astray by Trump

Former U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Georgia, called “late stage MAGA” an “ugly grotesque cult” in the latest exchange between the ex-MAGA stalwart and President Donald Trump.

The Oct. 14 social media post was in response to footage from Trump’s Oct. 12 rally in Youngstown, Ohio, that showed a woman wearing a T-shirt reading “Release the Epstein files” being attacked by a group of men.

“MAGA rallies used to be filled with people who agreed with releasing the Epstein files, defended women, and would step in if a woman was attacked,” Greene wrote. “Now the dying remnant of MAGA is made up of people who emulate their cult leader. Attacking women, making fun of their looks, and turning on the victims of the elites.”

Trump is heard on the footage, included in the post, calling the woman a “paid protestor” and attacking her weight.

“Our obese President makes fun of her calling her ‘fat’ and ‘him’ claiming she’s a paid protestor,” Greene wrote. “She got thrown out and the men who attacked her got to stay.”

She questioned the Christianity of the MAGA movement, calling Trump “a wolf in sheep’s clothing who has led the flock astray.”

“Know them by their fruit. The fruit is rotten,” she added.

USA TODAY has reached out to the White House for a response.

Greene’s tense split with Trump

Greene resigned from her seat in the House in January after a bitter break with Trump over the Epstein files.

She has become a fierce critic of the president after leaving the House, particularly over the Epstein files and the ongoing U.S. war in Iran. The former Georgia representative was one of the first previously MAGA aligned figures to publicly denounce the war shortly after the first strikes at the end of February.

Trump has referred to her as “Marjorie Traitor Greene,” resulting in Greene calling the president a “traitor” in a June 10 appearance on CNN.

She alleged that the Trump administration was “discussing using nuclear weapons on Iran” calling it “pure evil.” The White House denied the allegation at the time.

Greene said in the CNN appearance that “nothing changed” about her views since the beginning of her political career but that she is “unapologetically ‘America First.'”
