New Delhi: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Monday inaugurated the ninth National Security Strategies (NSS) Conference-2026 in New Delhi, with more than 850 participants deliberating on a range of issues concerning the country’s security.
Before inaugurating the two-day conference, Shah laid a wreath at the Martyrs’ Column in memory of Intelligence Bureau personnel who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty while safeguarding the nation’s security and integrity.
The conference is being held in hybrid mode, with Union Home Ministers of states and Union Territories, the Union Home Secretary, Deputy National Security Advisers, and heads of Central Armed Police Forces and Central Police Organisations attending in person.
Directors General of Police from states and Union Territories, young police personnel working at the cutting edge of innovation, and experts from various fields are participating virtually.
On the first day, delegates discussed key security challenges, including counter-terrorism, intelligence sharing and analysis through the Multi Agency Centre (MAC), narcotics, detection and deportation of illegal immigrants, cybercrime and Pakistan’s proxy war. Shah called for focused efforts to ensure effective implementation of the Ministry of Home Affairs’ PRAHAAR scheme and directed agencies to expedite the trial of cases by bringing back absconders and making use of provisions allowing trials in absentia.
He also stressed the need for a coordinated and integrated approach to investigations in cases registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
The Home Minister directed agencies to use artificial intelligence to analyse data available with the MAC and prepare standard operating procedures to address different aspects of national security.
He also called for stringent measures to check infiltration and urged delegates to formulate a comprehensive response to emerging challenges.
The second day of the conference will focus on sub-aerial challenges and responses, security of the blue economy, information warfare and its impact on national security.
