NFL Week 3 uniforms: Colts to wear 'Anvil Strike,' Bills debut 'Nickel City'

Tuesday marked the first day of fall. The blue skies across the country will turn to gray with the colder months approaching. But to spot a more immediate gray shade, look no further than NFL uniforms in Week 3 — namely, the Indianapolis Colts and Buffalo Bills.

Indianapolis will debut its Rivalries uniform against the Houston Texans. Nicknamed “Anvil Strike,” they are inspired by the steel of an anvil and the jersey’s “dark anthracite” color is one that “embodies the grit and intensity of Colts football.” The all-gray threads are complete with a metallic blue helmet. For the first time in team history, the Colts’ horseshoe is included on one of their uniforms — a silver version appears on the sleeve. Other uniform elements are classic blue numbers and “For The Shoe” on the inside collar. The Colts are the first team to debut the latest batch of Rivalries uniforms this season.

Buffalo is similarly wearing all-gray when it faces the Los Angeles Chargers at home. The “Nickel City” uniforms are a tribute to the “strength, grit and authenticity” of Western New York. The all-gray design is directly inspired by the Buffalo Nickel, a coin minted from 1913 to 1938. A metallic royal blue “charge” helmet tops the look. The helmet’s design is meant to bring a charging buffalo to life with the horn, eye and charge streak displayed in red.

The Denver Broncos will wear their midnight navy alternate look on “Sunday Night Football” against the Los Angeles Rams. Denver first introduced the look ahead of the 2024 season and is 2-0 in the all-navy combination. Last year, the Broncos paired their summit white helmet with the threads, but they’ll go with a navy-colored lid this time around.

In the throwback space, the Jacksonville Jaguars are rocking their classic prowler design. First unveiled in 2024, the teal uniforms include a prowling jaguar on the sleeves and a black helmet with the franchises’ original primary logo on it. The numbers boast a custom font in white with a black and gold trim. A similar three-color accent runs down the white pants in a teal stripe with gold and black trim.
