Shreyas Iyer Asked About Message To Players Not Getting Opportunities. His Reply

India captain Shreyas Iyer fielded the same playing XI for the third T20I against New Zealand that helped the team emerge triumphant in the second. As Shreyas won the toss in Wellington, he chose to field first, while also confirming the decision not to make any changes to the team, despite the fact that India are already 2-0 up in the series. When asked about the lack of opportunities for certain players, Shreyas gave an intriguing response.

Over the last two matches against New Zealand, different sets of players have stepped up. In the series opener, Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma and Shreyas Iyer gave the team a strong start. In the second, the middle-order stepped up, with the likes of Tilak Varma, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Naman Dhir taking the team home.

When Shreyas was asked about the feeling of finding different match-winners, he said it shows the quality the team has.

“It’s important for the team. I feel that everyone stepping up at the right time when the team requires it, that’s a sign of a quality team, and we want to keep repeating it again and again. And I feel going forward, it would be crucial for the team as well,” he said.

When the skipper was asked about how some reserves in the team feel after not getting enough opportunities to play, he said that most of them are mature enough to understand the situation and are happy to see the team winning.

“I feel a lot of players in the team are pretty mature to understand that, and I also have this feeling about every individual that they want to win more than, you know, worrying about their opportunity. I mean, everyone gets an opportunity, and when it arrives, I’m sure they’re ready for it. We’re going with the same team,” Shreyas concluded.
