UFC heavyweight Rizvan Kuniev has questioned Alex Pereira being positioned at number three in the divisional rankings.
As we know, Alex Pereira is one of the biggest stars of his generation in mixed martial arts – and one of the most remarkable crossover fighters of all time. ‘Poatan’ is already a two-weight world champion in the UFC, and he is trying to make it three up in the heavyweight division.

Alas, in his first outing at heavyweight, Alex Pereira was beaten pretty handily by Ciryl Gane. Despite this, he is currently ranked third in the division by the official UFC rankings.
In a recent interview, Rizvan Kuniev, who faces Alexander Volkov at UFC 333 tonight, had a few thoughts on the Alex Pereira situation.
Rizvan Kuniev’s view on Alex Pereira at heavyweight
“I think Pereira is somebody that would be a really good fight for me because he’s a very big media name and for me, specifically for me, a win over him would really do a lot in media for myself.”
“As far as I’m concerned, I think it’s AI that does those rankings because it doesn’t really make much sense,” Kuniev said. “I think the reason why he’s No. 3 is because they’re looking at all his accolades being a champion in two weight classes before this one.
“But to go on No. 3 in heavyweight after one loss, I think that’s very strange because at least give him a couple more fights. Nobody really even understood what Alex Pereira stands for in heavyweight. Nobody really saw what he can do. So to give him No. 3 right off the bat just seems off. I think at least a couple more fights, and then we can see. But just to have them at three is very strange.”
