Wurstfest is just around the corner, but another German-inspired Texas celebration is once again earning national attention.
Tickets are on sale, and the Polka Capital of Texas will once again be filled with music in the air, German food, beer, wine and dancing.
An adult day pass for the event cost $15; for children between the ages of seven to 12 get in for $1, and children six and under get in fur free. Two-day passes cost $20 and a ticket for the full three-day event costs $25.
“Renowned across The Lone Star State for its deep ties to German culture, Fredericksburg highlights its heritage with its annual Oktoberfest, a three-day event that kicks off in early October,” the USA Today website reads.
Founded in 1981, the annual event brings music, games, food and drinks to Fredericksburg in an effort to reproduce the Bavarian sense of gemütlichkeit, a German word that just means warmth, friendliness and good cheer. It also funds local arts scholarships and free music events throughout the city.
Last year, the Fredericksburg festival was in the running against New Braunfels’ Wurstfest for USA Today’s Top 10 Best Oktoberfest celebrations.
Despite the widespread love for the Hill Country’s favorite sausage celebration, Oktoberfest Fredericksburg was ultimately named the fifth-best German-infused celebration in the country. Wurstfest did not crack the top 10.
Whether Fredericksburg can hold onto its Oktoberfest bragging rights once again will be decided when this year’s USA Today winners are announced on Wednesday, September 16.
