Undefeated James Madison continues to rip a hole through the opposition ahead of Thursday’s road trip to face Sun Belt Conference rival Appalachian State. The Dukes are the only 7-0 team in the nation right now and remain on track to match their miraculous 2023 campaign under now-Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti.

First-year head coach Billy Napier is the man at the wheel responsible for James Madison’s current success following his move from Florida. However, the Dukes are now under pressure to perform again just five days after annihilating Georgia State 49-22, the fourth time in six games they’ve scored 45 points or more.
The Mountaineers suffered a one-sided 58-10 loss the last time these teams met at Bridgeforth Stadium in 2025, though that was in the midst of a horrendous second half of the season. Second-year head coach Dowell Loggains will hope to right those wrongs this week on home soil, which is hardly an impossibility given Appalachian State has won 16 of the 20 all-time meetings between these schools.
For the first time in a decade, James Madison has produced a running back with four consecutive 100+ rushing yard games in George Pettaway. Meanwhile, receiver Corey Scott and tight end Cole Keller have four touchdowns and at least 300 receiving yards so far this season as they look to keep offering quarterback Camden Coleman the outlets he needs to map the Dukes a route to victory.
