Incessant rain washes away road in Keonjhar, over 5 panchayats cut off

Incessant rainfall has thrown normal life out of gear in parts of Keonjhar district. A key road has been washed away and over five panchayats have been cut off from the rest of the area. The situation has turned particularly serious at Mangalpur under Padua Panchayat in Champua block, where the Bagdega nullah road has been completely washed away.

Heavy rain has caused the water level in the nullah to rise sharply, with nearly two feet of rainwater now flowing over the culvert. With the crossing rendered unsafe and inaccessible, movement along the route has come to a complete standstill.

Connectivity Severely Hit

The disruption has affected Padua and Bhanda Panchayats along with more than five surrounding panchayats, leaving residents facing severe communication and transportation problems. The washed-away stretch has effectively disrupted the vital road link used by people for their daily commute and other essential activities.

The continuing flow of water over the culvert has made passage difficult, leaving residents dependent on alternative routes, if available. The situation has also raised concerns among locals as prolonged rainfall could further damage the road and worsen connectivity in the area.

Champua recorded 121 mm of rainfall, highlighting the intensity of the downpour in the region. With rain continuing, residents are keeping a close watch on the water level and the condition of the damaged road.
