No. 12 Basha (Chandler, Ariz.) started the season with a 37-26 win over Chandler and faces another quality opponent in Orange Lutheran (Orange, Calif.) on Friday. These two squared off last year and the Bears jumped out to a 24-0 lead before the Lancers stormed back to tie it in the fourth quarter. Joshua Gaines scored the go-ahead touchdown in the final three minutes before the defense iced the win with a key fourth down stop.
C.J. Cypher and No. 14 Carrollton (Ga.) look to keep a hot start going with a huge out-of-state showdown against Catholic (Baton Rouge, La.) on Friday. Cypher has completed 44 of 57 passes for 593 yards and 10 touchdowns through his first two games, helping his team outscore those opponents 116-13.
No. 2 St. Frances Academy (Baltimore, Md.) picked it up late to roll to a 49-35 win over DeLand (Fla.) to open the year and have another big road test in Florida. The Panthers face last year’s Class 7A state runner-up Vero Beach, 16-1 since the start of the 2025 season with the lone loss coming to Lake Mary in the state championship game on a last-second Hail Mary. Vero Beach has one of the best quarterbacks in the country in four-star Notre Dame pledge Champ Monds, who has thrown for 591 yards and seven touchdowns through two games.
