9 dead in Pennsylvania shooting, Erie officials say

Nine people are dead after a shooting in Erie, Pennsylvania, on Friday night, city officials said.

The shooter is deceased and there is no ongoing threat to the public, city officials announced. Officials did not specify whether the shooter was included in the death toll.

Investigators determined that all nine deaths occurred before officers arrived at the scene, officials said Saturday. Officers arrived within minutes of receiving a ShotSpotter alert and no additional shots were fired after they reached the scene, according to the city.

Gov. Josh Shapiro said he had spoken with Erie Mayor Daria Devlin and offered his administration’s “full support.”

“My heart breaks for this family,” he wrote on X. “Lori and I are praying for their loved ones and the entire Erie community.”

Officers initially had limited information upon arrival, including “whether the individual remained inside or posed an ongoing threat.”

Officials said they would provide additional details at a 4 p.m. news conference Saturday.

Erie is about 128 miles north of Pittsburgh.
