Election 2026 live updates: Trump set to rally for Ashley Hinson, other GOP midterm candidates in Iowa

Rep. Ashley Hinson, R-Iowa, urged Vivek Ramaswamy’s campaign to take down its ad featuring Amy Acton’s estranged mother.

“I think about it as a mom, and you think about childhood having to relive that trauma. I think it’s absolutely terrible, and I think they should take the ad down,” Hinson, who’s running for a Senate seat in Iowa, told ABC News in an interview, a campaign spokesperson confirmed to NBC News.

Hinson’s comments about the ad come as Trump is en route to participate in a campaign rally with her in Iowa this evening.

Asked about Hinson’s criticism of the ad by reporters at the White House earlier today, Trump rebuffed the proposition of taking the ad down.

“That’s her opinion. I’m defending it because I know that if that ad were about my mother, you would love it,” Trump said. “You would love every inch of it. And what’s happened is the press has teamed up because he’s a Republican, and they’ve tried to make it like it’s a horrible thing.”

The ad has divided Republicans, as other GOP leaders, like Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine, have called for its removal.
